I finished the Adobe Construction Certificate at Santa Fe Community College in 2024. The same year, I completed FDM 3D Printer Master Badge issued by New Collar Network and North American Digital Fabrication Alliance. The confluence of these two programs led to the creation of casting adobe in 3D printed molds.
I have also performed restoration work at Pecos National Historic Park, turned and trimmed adobe bricks at New Mexico Earth Adobes, am a member of The Earthbuilders Guild out of New Mexico, and work on private custom projects. I am qualified to draw, estimate and construct adobe brick projects for you.
Adobe is the Spanish word for mudbrick and they are made with 30% clay and 70% sand. Clay is a natural binder (glue), and sand (a very small stone) is the structural element.
Put your dirt mix and straw through an 1/8" screen and add water for a Dry Pack consistency. Insert this live mix into the mold and pack it into all spaces equally and with medium strength. Wait approximately 24 hours and gently remove mold. Please watch this video on YouTube for visual reference.
